The Llywydd of the National Assembly for Wales, Elin Jones AM, invites you to join her in welcoming Professor Alan Llwyd to the Senedd for the fourth annual First World War commemorative lecture.

Alan Llwyd is a poet, author, historian and professor of Welsh at the Hywel Teifi Academy at Swansea University. His lecture will commemorate the life and work of Hedd Wyn, a centenary on from his death.

Poet Hedd Wyn was tragically killed during the First World War and posthumously won the Chair at the Birkenhead National Eisteddfod in 1917. The story of the Black Chair of Birkenhead is the story of one man’s triumph over tragedy, good defeating evil and creativity overcoming negativity and destruction. In his lecture, Alan Llwyd, an authority on Hedd Wyn and his work, will explore the man, the myth and the icon.
