World War One changed the way communities remembered their dead. This talk by Dr Lester Mason, of the University of Wales, Trinity St. David, will explain why. He will also reveal the arguments surrounding these memorials and clarify the meaning of the different symbols we see on war memorials in our towns and cities today.
Also an introduction to an exciting new project focusing upon Blaenau Gwent during the First World War. A short talk by Emyr Morgan, Blaenau Gwent Heritage Officer.
